Kay Schafer - Paintings and Photography

Welcome to the Schafer page.  My name is Kay Schafer and I am a painter and photographer located in the Morehead area. This page will tell you a little about my work.

Cave Run Lake Beach

I began sketching in my pre-teen years and have always enjoyed art. For many years my primary media were oil, acrylic and ink. I painted outdoor scenes, portraits and horses - and continue to do so.  In the last few years I have started to utilize what I have learned in art about composition and color to do digital photography.  I like the opportunity to capture the beauty of Kentucky landscapes in a traditional method.

(A little note to our viewers:  Mark the first weekend of December on your calendar.  During Hometown Holidays celebration in Morehead, lots of beautiful art of our regional artists and photographers is on display.)

I also value the chance to use modern digital techniques to transform my photographs in creative and (hopefully!) innovative ways.  I often produce multiple images of a photo to express a variety of ideas - varying color emphasis, artistic style and lighting.  This photo at right is a shot of the Warren County, Ohio Historical Museum, a favorite stop when I am in the Ohio area. (Perhaps it is the magnetic appeal of the chocolate shop across the street from the museum . . . .)

Other Images

I enjoy travel, and always try to have a camera available to capture those sudden opportunities for an interesting shot.  My digital camera is small, and can always be tucked into the corner of a handbag. I keep a larger traditional 35 mm camera which occasionally accompanies me when I am going out to do some photography.
